TAIPEI CITY, Chinese Taipei (William Jones Cup / 26th FIBA Asia Championship): Marcus Douthit poured in a game-high 28 points, and collected 11 rebounds, as SEABA champions Philippines beat hosts Chinese Taipei 82-72 in the third place play-off in the William Jones Cup on Sunday.
“Our target going into this tournament was No. 3 and we did it,” said Philippines coach Rajko Toroman.
“We need this game, we need this win," he added.
“We need this for our confidence because it leaves a bad taste in the mouth after our bad game against Iran,” the Serbian said about the defeat in the semifinals.
Marcio Lassiter added 16 points and Dondon Hontiveros had 13 for Philippines, who played some solid basketball right from the word go.
Chien Chia-Hung led the hosts’ scoring with 26 points and Chen Shun-Hsiang added 13 points.
